Bailey Calibrated Monofilament
The Bailey Retractable Monofilaments are diagnostic devices that consist of a monofilament mounted in a hand unit for protection when not in use.
The monofilaments are primarily used for testing the feet of diabetic patients for loss of protective sensation associated with peripheral neuropathy. If a patient cannot feel 10g, they should be considered at risk for developing pressure or neuropathic ulcers and should be referred to a specialist for further assessment.

Peripheral neuropathy cannot be excluded without regular foot screening in conjunction with symptomatic and clinical assessments. Neuropen® is an effective aid to this screening programme, meeting and exceeding current practices by being the first dual purpose, pocket size device designed to provide a safe and reliable test.
Neuropen® Monofilaments are replaceable monofilaments for use in the Neuropen®, which exert a force of 10g onto the skin to assess protective touch/pressure sensation in large nerve fibres- they are not supplied with the Neuropen, but can be ordered here
Neurotips™ are sterile, single use neurological examination pins, which eliminate the risk of cross infection. They are semi-sharp, to reduce the risk of skin puncture particularly on fragile skin.
Using a Neurotip in the Neuropen, a calibrated force of 40g may be safely exerted onto the skin, to identify patients with a decrease in sensation to sharpness/pain in small nerve fibres.
